What a journey it was! From May 13 to 17, 2024, Street Project Foundation took part in the Linking and Learning event, a gathering organised by Cognito and Voice Global. Our Community Engagement Officer and Media Officer, James Okewu, represented us at this three-day event, which culminated in the powerful “Murya” closeout ceremony, named after the Hausa word for “voice.” It was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do: to amplify the voices that too often go unheard.
This event was a celebration of achievements, a showcase of innovations, and a collection of impact stories from Voice’s grantee partners. Our very own ambassadors, Zakari Maikalma and Uyeh Member, took center stage and truly embodied the spirit of our artvocacy. Zakari captivated the audience with his spoken word performance, drawing inspiration from our Artvocacy coffee table book, “See Through Our Eyes.” His words wove a vivid tapestry of storytelling that underscored the importance of uplifting underrepresented voices.
Additionally, Uyeh displayed her remarkable upcycled fashion pieces and jewellry, each item crafted from waste materials. Her designs were not just beautiful—they told a story of sustainability, resilience, and the power of creativity to advocate for change. Watching them shine, we were reminded of the transformative impact of art and the boundless potential of our ambassadors as they grow into leaders, change-makers, and entrepreneurs.
Through this event, we reaffirmed our commitment to nurturing youth leaders and empowering marginalised groups. We remain dedicated to ensuring that the voices of those we serve are not only heard but celebrated, as they continue to inspire and drive meaningful change in our communities.
