In the ongoing journey to champion women’s rights and address Gender-Based Violence (GBV), our ARTvocacy movement took centre stage on July 19, 2024. At an influential advocacy forum convened by the Advocates for Health and Rights of Women and Youths Initiative, our Mobilisation Lead, Gift Chikere, represented Street Project Foundation with remarkable resolve. It was a powerful assembly of creative minds committed to leveraging the arts as a tool for policy influence and social change. Through dynamic discussions and shared strategies, participants set the groundwork for a comprehensive policy document aimed at combating GBV.
TheGift Chikere’s role in this important forum underscores the essence of ARTvocacy—creating spaces for advocacy through creative expression and supporting policy reform. But Gift’s journey doesn’t end here. In August 2024, she was appointed to the prestigious United Nations Human Rights and Education Above All Youth Advisory Board, an achievement that highlights her dedication to youth mobilisation and advocacy on a global scale.
With her active roles as a Field Officer in Oworonshoki, where she works to protect Child Domestic Workers, and as Leader of the ARTvocacy movement in Lagos, TheGift’s contributions amplify our mission to empower youth and marginalised groups. Her position on the UN advisory board promises to elevate our impact and extend our reach into international policy discussions, bringing our collective voice to the forefront of human rights and education advocacy.
This journey has not only reinforced our commitment but has also illuminated new ways for collaboration and influence, bringing us one step closer to a world where creativity fuels change and rights are upheld.
